The African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. (the "organization") was incorporated in the State of Wisconsin on May I3, 1993. The organization has three classes of members, only one class of which has voting rights.
A Board of Directors consisting of nine individuals who are elected by the voting members to a two-year term manages the organization. Any member of the organization in good standing is eligible to be elected to the Board of Directors.
The Bylaws provide that for the first five years of existence, an Executive Committee shall manage the organization. Under Wisconsin law, an executive committee may have full authority to act for the entire Board on any and all matters affecting the organization.
GOALS
The organization is organized and operates to assist African American businesses in the greater Milwaukee area. Many minority-owned businesses lack the information; resources and the necessary business acumen needed to survive in a competitive market. We believe it is extremely critical that minority-owned businesses are given the opportunity and resources to create jobs and provide needed goods and services in the City of Milwaukee and surrounding areas. The survival, growth and health of the City of Milwaukee depend on it. Such successful minority-owned businesses are extremely positive role models for the remainder of the community. We hope that these positive role models will serve as living proof that legitimate minority-controlled businesses offer minority individuals meaningful opportunities for financial success, and will combat the sense of hopelessness experienced by many of our minority youth.
The Chamber provides minority-owned businesses with a network of attorneys, accountants, and consultants to promote professionalism and to help identify and meet their needs. In addition, we provide information to minority-owned businesses through the circulation of regular newsletters, other directory information and through seminars. We also co-sponsor educational programs aimed at the particular needs of minority-owned businesses throughout die Milwaukee metropolitan area, including but not limited to, business management, capitol acquisition, joint venturing and insurance and bonding. We believe that such information and networking fosters the economic development of the neglected in the metropolitan Milwaukee area.
The African American Chamber generates positive community attention for minority-owned businesses through promotions in the local news media and recognition of various achievements.
